The 1-month passion tip
(that actually works)
Hello Passion Seekers!
I read a story this week about a woman called Sally, who's attempting 52 new things in 2025 – one new experience each week. And honestly, I'm conflicted about it.
On one hand, I love that she's making a statement about trying something new. She's showing us all that you can step outside your comfort zone and survive.
And, it's unlikely that one human will suddenly going to become passionateabout all 52 things in one year, which actually makes it more beautiful. She's giving herself permission to try things and set some aside – in her words, she's trying everything "from the daft to the daring, the easy to the extreme – or anything inbetween."
I especially love that she's identifying passion leaders and following them, trusting their expertise to guide her journey. There's something powerful about recognizing excellence in others and allowing yourself to learn from it.
But here's the tricky part...
These inspirational stories can be fuel for burnout if we're start feeling not doing something equally ambitious. "If I'm not trying 52 new things this year, then why bother at all?"Â
Our brains are so clever at jumping to all the reasons we can't follow Sally's example: Jimmy needs to be picked up from school. The tickets are too expensive. My colleagues will think I'm trying too hard. It's just not realistic.
And just like that, the door closes before we've even considered what might actually light us up.Â
So, here's one question I propose you ask yourself instead:
What is one thing I could try in the next month?
Just one.
It might be an activity you've quietly wanted to do for years, or something that caught your eye on social media. It could be work-related – perhaps a new approach to a problem that's been nagging you, or a skill that would make your role more satisfying.Â
A month gives you a reasonable runway for a first step. Time to coordinate schedules, enlist a friend if needed, buy the ticket, arrange childcare, or rearrange your calendar.
And importantly, a month is long enough to give something a fair chance without feeling like you've committed your entire life to it. If after a month it doesn't light you up? Great! You learned something about yourself. Move on and try something else.
The beauty of Passion-Seeking isn't in the quantity of experiences or becoming world-class at everything you touch. It's about finding those things, whether in your career or personal life, that make you feel more connected to yourself.
Take inspiration from the 52-things people of the world, then adapt it to your reality. See the underlying themes in their stories and use them as little sparks for your own journey.
Your life. Your pace. Your passions.
If you try something, tell me, I'd love to know how you get on!
